Mission Accepted: Building Trust in the News

American newsrooms now routinely work to build trust in the news in ways that were rare, if not radical, five years ago.  Readers get explanations about news decisions. They learn more about anonymous sources.  Editors expand coverage of topics that readers say are neglected. They track errors to discover and deal with accuracy problems. This picture emerges from a survey of newsrooms during the summer of 2006.
